To Make the University Work.

welcome to university services

University Services' mission is to create a physical environment and service culture that supports the University's mission of teaching, research, and outreach. I am proud to lead the over 2500 employees committed to this mission.

University Services supports teaching through:

  • Facilities Management, maintaining our buildings, providing custodial services, and supplying utilities that serve.
  • The Bookstores, providing our students with the materials they need to learn, and our faculty and staff with the tools they need to teach.
  • Printing Services, providing students and faculty with course packets and a variety of printing services.
  • Housing and Residential Life, creating living and learning environments for over 6,300 students annually.

University Services supports research through:

  • Environmental Health and Safety, ensuring the proper handling and disposal of chemicals and other hazardous materials.
  • Capital Planning and Project Management, working closely with academic departments to plan the best use of current and future buildings for research (as well as teaching).
  • University Stores, providing low-cost laboratory materials (as well as office and classroom supplies).
  • Central Security, ensuring that laboratories are secure "24/7."

University Services supports public outreach through:

  • Public Safety, ensuring the safety of our students, staff, faculty and public on the Twin Cities campus.
  • Parking and Transportation Services, working to improve access to and around the Twin Cities campus for all visitors as well as faculty, staff, and students.
  • Concerts and Lectures, bringing the best in the arts as well as nationally-renowned speakers to the public.
  • Planning and Programming, just one of dozens of University Services departments working to create a campus environment that is accessible and pleasant while maintaining the University's rich architectural history.

Whether you are an undergraduate student, tenured faculty, or an alum back for a visit, University Services is here to serve you. Enjoy a meal at one of our 22 University Dining locations or stroll the beautifully landscaped Northrop Mall. Behind every success at the University of Minnesota are University Services employees, building a better U.
