Definitions

Acres
The acreage statistics in this document reflect surface acreage. Information obtained from the University of Minnesota Office of Real Estate.

Assignable Square Feet (ASF)
The number of square feet available to be assigned to a specific classroom, laboratory, office, kennels, or other work space. ASF is measured on the interior-only, and does not include outer walls, hallways, stairways, or mechanicals.

Classroom and Class Laboratory ASF
Rooms designated for teaching and learning, including traditional classrooms, lecture halls, and laboratories for science courses.

Gross Square Feet (GSF)
The number of square feet of a building measured from the exterior points of the building.

Office and Conference ASF
Rooms designated for individual and group offices and cubicles, or large areas for meetings or conferences.

Other Assignable Square Feet
These numbers include athletic fields, libraries, and other large areas of space.
Research and Outreach Centers (ROC)
The College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences has six Research and Outreach Centers (ROCs) that conduct site-specific, coordinated research and outreach programs in cooperation with several colleges and departments within the University of Minnesota. ROCs are located throughout the state.

Research and Research Laboratory ASF
Rooms designated for research, including wet and dry laboratories, observation rooms, etc.
