Center for Continuing Education
The University of Minnesota Center for Continuing Education, formerly known as the Institute for Sustainable Natural Resources, was created to be a world-class continuing education program and a resource network to bring current research, new technologies, and state-of-the-art practices to resource professionals who will face tomorrows resource challenges. The institute grew out of the Sustainable Forest Resources Act of 1995, which developed principles for the sustainable management, use, and protection of Minnesotas forest resources. The act recognizes continuing education as one important component of this mission. The University of Minnesotas College of Natural Resources provided matching funds and the institute was born. The center provides continuing education opportunities: skill building and special topics information for foresters and other resource professionals, as well as forest-related education opportunities pertaining to fisheries biology, wildlife biology, park resource management, and other fields. The center emphasizes an integrated systems approachdesigning educational programs based on the understanding that natural resource management is part of an interdependent system. Social, economic, and ecological values must work together to sustain healthy, productive ecosystems.
