Welcome

From groundbreaking research to unique recycling options, the University of Minnesota has a long and impressive history of sustainability on campus. Under the leadership of President Robert H. Bruininks and guided by the 2004 Board of Regent’s Policy on Sustainability and Energy Efficiency, examples of the University’s commitment to sustainability are visible in classrooms, laboratories and dining rooms across campus. With more than 60,000 students, 3,000 faculty, and 13,500 researchers, instructors, and staff, this report does not intend to be a complete listing of the sustainability efforts at the University of Minnesota. Instead, the report provides a snapshot of the leadership, modeling, operational improvements, energy efficiency, research and outreach efforts currently underway on the Twin Cities campus. Impressive work not documented here is also underway in Duluth, Crookston, Morris and Rochester. All of the work will help protect our resources and provide a rich environment for the people of Minnesota far into the future. Thank you for your interest in sustainability at the University of Minnesota.
