Comparative Environmental and Economic Systems Analysis of Corn Stover Logistics Options for Cellulosic Ethanol Production

Corn stover is the largest underutilized crop in the U.S. Logistics models for conventional energy systems, which involve large-scale central processing and long-distance transportation, prove limited applicability for corn stover-derived biofuel system due to the high logistics cost including that for handling, storage, and transportation of low energy-density corn stover. The goal of this research project is to identify the best logistics option that can reduce the cost and
the life-cycle CO2 emissions for handling, storage, and transportation of corn stover for ethanol production.
