Welcome to the Twin Cities campus of the
University of Minnesota. During the last 150 years, this historic
land-grant University has nurtured many exceptional people, ideas, and
accomplishments. Some of the most influential people of our time have
walked these paths, and many revolutionary scientific and artistic
achievements were launched in these buildings.
To help bring to life the stories of these people and accomplishments,
the University has created a Heritage Trail. In addition to more than 30
full-color heritage markers that tell the University's story in words and
pictures, the trail also includes many monuments, plaques, and memorials
throughout the Twin Cities campus.
The trail is divided into several parts so you can take in as much as
you have time for. If a particular marker topic interests you, you can
locate it on the map and go directly to it. If architecture intrigues you,
the trail will guide you past the University's historic buildings-many of
them more than a century old.
Wherever your explorations take you, we hope you'll enjoy the natural
beauty of our campus with its graceful lawns, majestic shade trees, and
colorful gardens. You'll find many benches along the way, so take a moment
or two for rest and reflection.
Thank you for visiting our campus, and we hope you'll return often to
experience the beauty and rich heritage of the University of Minnesota.
Sincerely,

Robert H. Bruininks
