Walk the Heritage
Trail
A system of walking trails
The University of Minnesota Heritage Trail is actually a collection of
several trails that invite you into the University's past.
The North Trail on the East Bank takes you through the old
campus where you'll see 13 buildings that are on the National Register of
Historic Places and heritage markers that depict the University's early
days.
While strolling along the East Bank's South Trail, you'll
experience the University's most traditional gathering place-Northrop
mall. Markers there will describe everything from the history of campus
architectural design to University icons, pioneers, and innovators.
The West
Bank Trail markers describe the University's expansion
across the river, the history of University arts and radio, and the legacy
of public and international service.
The St. Paul Trail markers describe the University's
agricultural roots and the expansion from agriculture to the studies of
natural resources, horticulture, biological sciences, veterinary medicine,
and human ecology.
